Batiks on Silk
Batik is a complex medium, painting with melted beeswax as a resist and applying cold water dyes to natural fabrics such as silk.  Batik is often associated with wearable art and fabrics, my works are fine art framed paintings.

Works displayed are for your viewing enjoyment.  Many originals have been sold but are available in giclee or photographic prints.  If you are interested in particular images please contact me and we can discuss availability and price.  Thank you.

Diane Burns on "Firebird" Audio Tour Hightlight:

This video below was created  for the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in 2017 as an educational piece for the them.  “Firebird” was the last batik of mine to exhibit in the prestigious Birds in Art show of that year.  It was also the last batik I painted as,  after 50 years working in this medium,  I wanted to explore other creative endeavors.
I entered in 1996 for the first time and got in (miraculous).  In the following 21 years I managed to get in 12 times.  It’s really a hard one to get accepted. Each year the jurors are different so it’s a crap shoot.  Plus you’re up against the best wildlife/bird artists in the world.  I feel pretty honored to have made it 12 times.

Contact me if you have questions or are interested in commissioning an original piece.
